"For we are now on a
different basis of trusting and relying upon God. We trust infinite God
rather than our finite selves. We are in the world to play the role He
assigns. Just to the extent that we do as we think He would have us, and
humbly rely on Him, does He enable us to match calamity with serenity.
"We never apologize to
anyone for depending upon our Creator. We can laugh at those who think
spirituality the way of weakness. Paradoxically, it is the way of
strength. The verdict of the ages is that faith means courage. All men of
faith have courage. They trust their God. We never apologize for God.
Instead we let Him demonstrate, through us, what He can do. We ask Him to
remove our fear and direct our attention to what He would have us be. At
once, we commence to outgrow fear." (bigbook

I replied, “But my work all seems so useless! I have spent my strength for nothing and to no purpose at all. Yet I leave it all in the LORD’s hand; I will trust God for my reward.”

“Don’t be troubled. You trust God, now trust in me. There are many rooms in my Father’s home, and I am going to prepare a place for you. If this were not so, I would tell you plainly. When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am.

If your man accepts your offer, it should be pointed out that physical treatment is but a small part of the picture. Though you are providing him with the best possible medical attention, he should understand that
he must undergo a change of heart.

But now
to the real purpose of this web page, after all of the intro, that gets us
in a frame of mind about what true anonymous recovery is about, for some
of us. Let us offer a small thumbnail of what abstinence has been
about, for this scribe.
My first
sponsor had close to twenty years of abstinence, and knew how important
the steps are. His words to me, in the first few days were, "If
you don't get these steps into your life, quick, you are going to
die." Also, he told me, "I don't care how much you tell me
you have been to church. The way you tell me you have lived your
life, you do not know anything about God."
In the
first month of abstinence, he had gotten me through the first eight steps,
in that I had done an inventory, a confession of same, in a fifth step, as
well as had made a list of the people that I thought I had harmed. I
was not on that future amends list.
Within a
few months, three or four, an old timer, in the area that I was attending
meetings in, had me in jail talking with a potential new comer, as well as
chairing a meeting at our local Department of Corrections facility.
My
sponsor had me staying in touch with the early recovery community, and
also taught me how to attend state and local fellowship functions, on an
annual basis.
Within
seven months, was connected to an employer that gave me a fabulous
opportunity, and without the burden of the fatal malady affliction, in a
period of years, became a multi-millionaire. Abruptly, one day, it
all came crumbling down, and I was in a state of poverty, after a
divorce. The point is that it became clear to me, over a season of
many years, that God wanted me to learn other things, than just how to
make money, while I visited this planet. :-)
Last
year, mentioned to my daughter that my career ended in 1981. Her
reply was, "Dad, your career did not end, you just changed
directions."
The point
of all of this minutia is that all of the spiritual work has been without
pay. And it has consumed my life, for over two decades. Not
only that, God has had to provide all of the where with all for all of the
things that you can see, on this web site, including the inventory of
goods that we have available, relative to literature and tee shirts
etc. Needless to say, this is a very large dollar amount, indeed.
But be
assured of this one truth. There has been zero pay for this
approaching twenty four year full time effort, thus far; June of 05.
