still
learning about differences between xp pro and xp media
eventhough
it might be true that it is hard to teach an old dog new tricks, at
times, we just can't give up, until a dilemma has been resolved.
on the other hand, one of the step nine promises states, "we will
intuitively know how to handle situations that use to baffle us,"
or something close to that.
it
has mystified me for some time now, how after many months of xp
functioning one way, just out of the clear blue, it will change gears,
or directions - left or right - with no warning, and make me wonder
what has just happened. and some of you guys and gals already
know how SLOW ole dummy can be at times, to pick up on something, that
should be obvious to all.
anyway,
some of you know that we had our third computer crash, over a year
ago, and got a system with xp media as the operating system.
didn't know for a long time that there were major differences between
xp pro, and the media edition.
one
that has been terribly difficult to adjust to is how it will not let
some things go, when you desire to delete it from the hard
drive. the main one being, how to empty a "full scratch
disk" file for graphic work. and since for many years have
had to edit graphics, this has been an on going process. but
with media edition, that appears, on the surface to not be an option.
but
god out fooled those suckers, again.
what
just recently worked, having to spend MANY hours, again, on the net
trying to find a solution, to no avail, just started trying
things. and of course, this was in response to the error
message, "the picture cannot be saved, because your scratch disk
is full," or something close.
went
into the 'file' option on the graphic editor - which goes back to '01
or '02, and chose 'preferences.' took the computer selected
choice of 'storage' of data from 'startup' and put in c:\. next
put an option in for secondary storage of the same data for my auxiliary
hard drive.
after
determining what type of file needed to be found, and been successful
at locating same, the media edition gave an error message from the
graphic editing program, "file being used by another party or
program' or sum dumb stuff like that. so, finally understood
that after a 'log off,' rather than 'restart,' that the computer had
released those same files, from where they were being tracked or
acknowledged, and were no longer being held like a hostage.
presto,
the file that had all of that data was now deleted, and my 'scratch
disk' was again empty. praise god, ya hear?
but
sometimes, ole dummy thinks that the computer gurus/geeks at the large
program developers intentionally install shit in their programs that
will make us give up, and go purchase a new computer in hopes that all
of our problems will be behind us.
ps:
it also mystifies me how unstable the media edition is, compared to xp
pro. as you must know, we do intense work with computers, due to
the very nature of our effort (s).
but
now, the browser can get "squirrelly" over many
things. and programs just won't work, at all. so, have to
do another logoff/logon for it to clear up. and at other times,
it takes a full "restart" to clear it up. and then, we
are back in business, again, praise god.
