his pure apostles
click to view, thinking that it is the holy spirit.editors note: the books of acts and first corinthians have many scriptures about god's apostles. they need to be studied, and understood, concerning god's twelve spiritual principles, before these scriptures can have full meaning, and understanding. it seems that only they - god's apostles - will ever be entrusted with god's money, so that the needy can be cared for, and not by governments of this world. but in order to be considered an apostle, in the eyes of god, the following scriptures, in the ninth chapter of luke, must be fulfilled, which allows and enables the rebirth process to be made complete, as it relates to receiving the heart that god supplants with his Spirit. a thumbnail of those books though is about the twelve apostles of jesus. he became spirit, at his crucifixion. two days later, by god's calendar, or two thousands years later by man's calendar, the twelve steps, which have spiritual principles, arrive on the scene.
let us close our commentary by stating that it is our single opinion that many in the religious community, in america, think that they have been given the gift of the holy spirit. we doubt that. they probably just have the gift of the living water -
One day Jesus called together his twelve apostles and gave them power and authority to cast out demons and to heal all diseases. Then he sent them out to tell everyone about the coming of the Kingdom of God and to heal the sick. “Don’t even take along a walking stick,” he instructed them, “nor a traveler’s bag, nor food, nor money. Not even an extra coat. When you enter each village, be a guest in only one home. If the people of the village won’t receive your message when you enter it, shake off its dust from your feet as you leave. It is a sign that you have abandoned that village to its fate.”
(Luke 9:1-5)When the apostles returned, they told Jesus everything they had done. Then he slipped quietly away with them toward the town of Bethsaida. But the crowds found out where he was going, and they followed him. And he welcomed them, teaching them about the Kingdom of God and curing those who were ill.*
(Luke 9:10-11)But sometimes I think God has put us apostles on display, like prisoners of war at the end of a victor’s parade, condemned to die. We have become a spectacle to the entire world—to people and angels alike. Our dedication to Christ makes us look like fools, but you are so wise! We are weak, but you are so powerful! You are well thought of, but we are laughed at. To this very hour we go hungry and thirsty, without enough clothes to keep us warm. We have endured many beatings, and we have no homes of our own. We have worked wearily with our own hands to earn our living. We bless those who curse us. We are patient with those who abuse us. We respond gently when evil things are said about us. Yet we are treated like the world’s garbage, like everybody’s trash—right up to the present moment.
I am not writing these things to shame you, but to warn you as my beloved children. For even if you had ten thousand others to teach you about Christ, you have only one spiritual father. For I became your father in Christ Jesus when I preached the Good News to you. So I ask you to follow my example and do as I do.
(1 Corinthians 4:9-16)Now all of you together are Christ’s body, and each one of you is a separate and necessary part of it. Here is a list of some of the members that God has placed in the body of Christ:
first are apostles,
second are prophets,
third are teachers,
then those who do miracles,
those who have the gift of healing,
those who can help others,
those who can get others to work together,
those who speak in unknown languages.
They will be my people, and I will be their God. And I will give them one heart and mind to worship me forever, for their own good and for the good of all their descendants.
(Jeremiah 32:38-39)*We are average Americans. All sections of this country and many of its occupations are represented, as well as many political, economic, social, and religious backgrounds. We are people who normally would not mix. But there exists among us a fellowship, a friendliness, and an understanding which is indescribably wonderful. We are like the passengers of a great liner the moment after rescue from shipwreck when camaraderie, joyousness and democracy pervade the vessel from steerage to Captain's table. Unlike the feelings of the ship's passengers, however, our joy in escape from disaster does not subside as we go our individual ways. The feeling of having shared in a common peril is one element in the powerful cement which binds us. But that in itself would never have held us together as we are now joined.
The tremendous fact for every one of us is that we have discovered a common solution. We have a way out on which we can absolutely agree, and upon which we can join in brotherly and harmonious action. This is the great news this book carries to those who suffer from alcoholism.
An illness of this sort, and we have come to believe it an illness, involves those about us in a way no other human sickness can. If a person has cancer all are sorry for him and no one is angry or hurt. But not so with the alcoholic illness, for with it there goes annihilation of all the things worth while in life. It engulfs all whose lives touch the sufferer's. It brings misunderstanding, fierce resentment, financial insecurity, disgusted friends and employers, warped lives of blameless children, sad wives and parents - anyone can increase the list. (Bigbook page 17)
our malady is that we have an illness, in that we have carried around with us, every where we went, harboring ill feelings towards others. anonymous recovery - the twelve steps - can heal us of all of our human ills, if we can learn about enthusiasm and altruism, and then usefulness to others.
