“The most effectual engines for [pacifying a nation] are the public papers... [A despotic] government always [keeps] a kind of standing army of news writers who, without any regard to truth or to what should be like truth, [invent] and put into the papers whatever might serve the ministers.” …Thomas Jefferson
What would our Founding Fathers say about the current state of freedom of press in this country? In recent months, the Los Angeles Times has sat on stories that could have potentially changed the outcome of the presidential election were they printed. What would have been the impact on the Democratic primary had the LA Times elected to print a story concerning John Edwards and his alleged love affair? Would Edward’s voters have given the primary to Hillary Clinton? Probably, but of course we will never know with certainty. What we do know for sure is that when the American people have to rely upon The National Enquirer for their critical news because major media like the LA Times are more interested in forwarding their ideological political agenda than in doing their job - protecting our democracy by exposing the truth about candidates and issues - we all suffer. So what was the excuse for not running with the Edwards story even as interest in the story grew and low circulation caused the Times staff to shrink? One would think that given the current financial concerns of the LA Times, they would have a business interest in printing stories that could sell newspapers. However, that seems to not be the case.
One of the LA Times top execs has higher concerns, though. He recently sent staff an edict: “There has been a little buzz surrounding John Edwards and his alleged affair,” it read. “Because the only source has been the National Enquirer, we have decided not to cover the rumors or salacious speculations.” (http://www.bloggernews.net/117087)
The LA Times is deciding for us. Once again, the LA Times has chosen the agenda - helping Barack Obama anyway it can over its own financial interests, and more importantly, over its duty to the democracy to print the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.
It has recently come to the attention of FreedomMarch.org that the Los Angeles Times is in possession of a videotape that allegedly features then Illinois state senator Barack Obama toasting Rashid Khalidi. Mr. Khalidi is a former spokesman for the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO). Khalidi’s ties to this terrorist organization, along with his many anti-Israel statements are profoundly disturbing, and even more so if he has the close friendship and support of a potential US President.
FreedomMarch.org believes that the refusal of the Times to release this tape is but one more example of the clear bias in the “main stream media” and further demonstrates the refusal of the media to fully and completely vet the man who, in just days, may be elected to the highest office in our great nation. We call for Patriots everywhere to join us in demanding the immediate release of this video tape along with any other information the LA Times possesses regarding the complete relationship between Khalidi and Obama.
The American people have the right to full and complete disclosure with respect to the man who has asked us to trust him with the most sensitive of information. Nothing less than our national security, that of Israel, and that of the entire world is at stake. The LA Times has an ethical, moral, and patriotic duty to release the tape and tell the truth. The dereliction of duty on the part of the American media in this election could never be clearer as the LA Times seeks to insulate Obama from the truth and from his questionable past.
We deserve better treatment by the LA Times and mainstream media. We now demand it.
