To begin
this web page, and this important topic, let us quote a phrase out of the
original anonymous text book that did not make any sense to us, for a long
time. In the chapter, "We Agnostics," we find the
following, on page 49:
Instead of regarding ourselves as intelligent agents, spearheads of
God's ever advancing Creation, we agnostics and atheists chose to believe that our human intelligence was the last word, the alpha and the omega, the beginning and end of all. Rather vain of us, wasn't it?
Any of
you all, out there in the hinterland, taught by religion, that creation occurred
a long time ago?
I am one
that believes that man is much older than the Garden of Eden. I
believe that there was such a thing as Neanderthal man, that lived on
earth, they say, about ten thousand years ago. I do not have a
problem with that.
What I
also believe is that Adam was the first ever being that was created, that
had the privilege of visitations with God; the beginning of spiritual time
with humanity.
Some how,
theologians from centuries past, established that the book of Genesis was
written about spiritual time, beginning with creation, as being 4004
BC. I do not know if that is true, but have seen a variety of those
findings, but since I was not there, I accept that information on
faith. Be assured that if we ever find any thing that contradicts
that date, which is convincing, we shall surely update and amend all of our findings
accordingly.
It is
believed, by some, that Moses wrote the book of Genesis. Some even
say that Job was the first book of the bible, and they claim that its
spiritual time frame was circa 4010 BC. I don't have a clue how they
figured out that stuff.
What we
can count on though is God's word, which I do believe. Let us quote
2 Peter 3:8;
But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.
(NIV)
Would
anyone like to argue with what God thinks of a day as being; how long it
lasts?
Considering
that some think that The Garden of Eden was six thousand years ago, it
seems logical to me that the first six days of God's creation have come to
an end, and thus supports the concept in the bigbook that mentions God's
ever advancing creation. My old attitude was that creation occurred
a long time ago, rather than it is still on going.
The
second key to all noahhite concepts is that the thoughts change, or
reverse, in the preceding scripture, from "a day is like a thousand
years, to a thousand years are like a day." Everything is going
to change, in God's last day of creation, since God is changeless.
And that
is not going to be easy, for anyone. The things that have driven
this world, and it's ways for six thousand years are going to be replaced
with better stuff. A clue is the following scripture:
"God planned a long time ago that these lives would be spent in
helping others."
Heretofore,
it was about how much can I get for my services, as a quarterback, a
pitcher, a center, a doctor, a lawyer, a preacher, a carpenter, a
salesman, etc. But now, to get into God's Kingdom, it will be about how
much can we give. No one has ever been able to out give God.
And what we receive has to be received in faith, rather than by self-will,
manipulations, deceptions, negotiations, or by illegal means.
But now
to the "spearhead" deal. Remember reading that missing the
mark was about archers, in days of old, relative to the King James
Version, written in England. "We have all sinned, and missed
the mark - fallen short of the Glory of God." To me, that is
why they used the word shortcoming, in the seventh step.
ALL
people used to say that defects of character and short comings were the
same thing. And I am talking about people from the early pioneering
period. That was just a cliché, that was passed on by people that
still had depraved minds.
Well, if
we are indeed a spear (head), seems to me that we need to learn how to hit
the mark, the
target. But there are complications. There is nothing
complimentary nor flattering in the bigbook, in my opinion, about me, at all.
Quite to the contrary, it says
that I had a depraved mind, that I was guilty of crooked thinking, that I
had bedeviled emotions, not to mention that I was maladjusted to life, and
that I was an outright mental defective, ad infinitum. And close to
twenty years into the abstinence experience, it was written that "defiance
is an outstanding characteristic, of our ilk;" that reference is
in the 12 and 12 - step two.
Even
remember reading, in one translation of the bible, something about a
reprobate mind, which means that it is not worth saving. Doesn't
sound too good, does it?
The point
is, no wonder we need an entire psychic change, and a change of
heart. Well, that is what true anonymous recovery is about, and it
all depends on our connection to heaven. But please, the dialog in
all anonymous fellowships needs to stay just like it is. The
information contained in the Fulfilled Mansions literature needs to be
shared appropriately, out side of the meeting rooms of all anonymous
fellowships, please. The unity of and in all fellowships is
paramount! Hopefully, they will never change. Each has
it's own singleness of purpose, thank God.
The
bigbook mentions, a number of times, the concept of a new
life.
But if we are doing what we have always done, without our fatal malady
being in play - our afflictions, habits, or addictions, then to me, it is
not a new life at all. It is the preverbal SSDD; same s---,
different day.
Hopefully,
a few will be able to take time to read the we
are web page,
occasionally.
Let us
close this web page with this thought. The anonymous fellowships are
the only arenas that offer us the space to let the world pass us by, so
that we can learn how to surrender our old lives with the first three
steps, clear up our mistakes with the middle six steps, and with a new
employer, spiritually grow into the new life, in God's Kingdom. The
best to you my many friends, from whom I have received so much help.
